Responsibilities
- Communicate safety issues and strategies to other members of the crew and encourage a pro-active and interactive approach to safety and health issues.
- Carry out inspections of workplaces to ensure that a safe workplace is maintained and potential hazards are dealt with appropriately before commencement or continuation of work in that area
- Ensure that a workplace Inspection Sheet is completed prior to commencing work at each workplace.
- Liaise, through the Underground Shift Supervisor, with Engineers, Geologists, Surveyors and other departments to assist in meeting of production and development targets.
- Ensure that any damage to plant, vehicles or machinery is reported and that a pre-start check is completed prior to operating any vehicle or heavy machinery.
- Ensure that all incidents are reported as required under the safety Act and Regulations and according to Company policy.
- Ensure oncoming operator is given all relevant information relating to the current status and condition of your working areas.
- Accurate and timely completion of time cards at the end of each shift.
- Ensure Pre-start check lists are filled and returned to the shift supervisor
- Keep equipment and working area clean at all times. Clean spillage from trucks, walks, driveways
- Participation in all applicable safety toolbox and prestart meetings
- Comply with Company Environmental, Health, Safety and Operational policies and procedures

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Secondary School Certificate / Vocational Training/ Apprenticeship in a related field / college program in heavy equipment operation
- Hold a valid Tanzanian driver’s license
- Heavy Mobile equipment operation skills.
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in underground mining environment as a “scoop Operator” preferably has operated Caterpillar R2900G LHD
Skills / Knowledge Requirements
- Experience in underground hard rock mining techniques including watering, scaling, bogging and trucking of development and production headings.
- Ability to clean and maintain roads and travel ways to high standard. A full driving license.
- Prior experience with Tele remote is highly preferable
- Good written and oral communication skills – Swahili/English
- Ability to act and operate as part of a team and possess a “can do” attitude that will motivate the crew to action company directives, regardless of personal opinion.
- Methodical, organized and able to work on own initiative.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good time management skills and the ability to complete tasks in a safe, timely and professional fashion
- Ability to perceive risks and prevent hazardous situations or circumstances before they occur.
